‘Everybody Knows’ nominated for 8 awards at Spain’s Oscar

Spanish film ‘Everybody Knows’ by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi gets 8 nominations at Spain’s Goya Awards.

Spanish movie ‘Everybody Knows’ by Iranian renowned filmmaker Asghar Farhadi has been nominated for eight awards at the 2019 edition of the Goya Awards in Spain.

‘Everybody Knows’ received nod in Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Song and Best Director categories at the 33rd Goya Awards.

It also took four other nominations, including Best Actor for Javier Bardem, Best Actress for Penelope Cruz, Best Supporting Actor for Eduard Fernandez and Best Editing for Iranian film editor Hayedeh Safiyari.

Celebrity couple, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, has starred in the flick which was premiered at the latest edition of the Cannes Film Festival in France.

Written and directed by Farhadi, the film is about Laura who lives with her husband and children in Buenos Aires. When they return together at her native village in Spain for a family celebration, an unexpected event changes the course of their lives.

The film has so far attended several global film events, including the 71st Cannes Film Festival in France, the 36th Munich International Film festival in Germany, the 2018 Golden Apricot Film Festival in Armenia, the 2018 Toronto Film Festival in Canada, the 66th Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia, and the 55th Antalya Film Festival in Turkey, the 25th Austin Film Festival in the US, the 2018 Lumière Film Festival in France, and the CineIran (Iranian Film Festival) in Canada.

The Goya Awards are Spain's main national film awards, deemed the Spanish equivalent to the American Academy Awards.

The ceremony to announce the winners and present the awards will take place in Seville on 2 February, 2019.
